Hazel J. (Lipsett) McCarthy passed away peacefully on July 21, 2024, after a brief illness, with her family at her side. Hazel was born in Millis, MA, where she graduated high school. After graduating, she married the late Joseph McCarthy and moved to Medfield, MA, in 1953, where she raised her seven children.
Hazel was a loving and very busy mother with her large family. Hazel was a stay-at-home mom until her last child entered school. She then worked in the Medfield School system in the cafeteria, retiring from there in 1994.
Hazel was a loving grandmother to 18 grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nana, and 13 great-grandchildren called her great-Nana. She loved spending with all her family. She could be seen around town with her sister/best friend and copilot, the late Claire Clewes. The family called them the "weather girls," Claire and Hazey. Together, they never missed a family gathering. All her children's and grandchildren's friends called her Nana.
Hazel leaves behind her children, daughters, Sue and her husband Jack Phillips, Pat and her husband Stan DeFrancisco, Jodie and her husband Stephen Tulloch, Maureen Sullivan, Mary-Ellen Odone, Julie and her husband Michael Langelier and her son Jack and his wife Debra McCarthy. In addition to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Hazel has several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
We will all miss our loving mother, Nana, Great Nana, Aunt, Great Aunt, and friend. Donations may be made in Hazel's memory to Autism Speaks.
Hazel will be laid to rest with a private grave side service in Vine Lake Cemetery.
