Hazel Rathbun, 101, of Pierre, SD, died on Monday, August 11, 2025 at Avera St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 14th from 1:00pm until 1:30pm at Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre. A funeral service will follow at 1:30pm, with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre. Hazel Harsha was born March 6, 1924 to Myrle and Fern (Mackey) Harsha in Fort Pierre, SD. She grew up on Robb's Flat northwest of Hayes and attended Robb's Flat School.
Hazel was united in marriage to Gerald (Jay) Rathbun March 4, 1948
in Fort Pierre, SD. Two daughters were born to this union. Joyce Darlene on December 18, 1949 and Donna Irene on May 27, 1952.
Hazel worked various places throughout her life. Her longest employment was at Modern Cleaners, where she worked for over 40 years as a seamstress.
Hazel enjoyed time with family and friends. She spent time doing embroidery and puzzles of all kinds. Her passion was baseball. She played many games in her youth with friends and neighbors. She was the Minnesota Twins' most loyal fan. If a game was on TV; she was watching.
Thankful for having shared her life are her daughter Donna (Donald) Gallimore of Pierre; grandchildren Jada (Tim) Olmstead of Sioux Falls; Kerry (Clif) Newton of Black Hawk; Ryan (Andrea) Jager of Black Hawk; Roy Jager of Sioux Falls; Randy Jager of Rapid City; JaTona (Justin) Parker of Pierre; Skyler (Alicia) Gallimore of Sioux Falls; Kayla (Dustin) Witt of Pierre; Rhett (Rená) Jager of Box Elder; Rylee (Alex) Jager of Williston ND. Fourteen great grandchildren.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; brother Francis Harsha
in 1987; twin sister Hattie Clark in 2019; daughter Joyce Jager 2007; great granddaughter Mallory Newton 2005.
