Hazel Thompson Self

 

Hazel Thompson Self, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after almost a year of declining health.  She was one of fifteen children born to the late David James and Mariah Jordan Thompson and was married for 61 years to Marvin Parrish Self who died on November 4, 2019.

Hazel was a registered nurse for over 30 years working and serving families at both Alamance County Hospital and Alamance Regional Medical Center.  She was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church and the Guiding Light Sunday School Class.  She faithfully served her church for over 40 years in various roles and on different committees but she really enjoyed helping prepare meals for families while on the bereavement committee and more recently helping with meals for the Cummings High School Football team.  Hazel loved playing dominoes and working on puzzles. You could almost always find one laid out in her house that she was working on.  She also loved searching through her phone looking for friends and family she needed to call and visit.  Hazel always lived life to the fullest and will be dearly missed by all her friends and family.

She is survived by her siblings, Louise Mable, Mary Ellen “Sissy”, Curtis Allen and Jerry Jordan; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Parrish Self; son, Timothy Marvin Self; parents; and siblings, Annie Laura, James Warren, Albert Lee, Clarence Boyd, Thomas, Doris Irene, Lou Ellen, Wallace Willard, David James, Jr., and Martha Jane.

A service to celebrate her life will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Clarence Toney and Rev. Bob Stephenson with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 9:45-10:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.
