After graduating from Churubusco High School in 1944. Following high school, she married Bob on May 2, 1947, and together they shared a loving partnership that lasted fifty-eight years, raising two daughters, Cindy and Cheryl. Tragically, their daughter Cheryl passed away on August 20, 1997, and Bob later left this world on December 9, 2005, leaving behind cherished memories for Helen and their family.
Professionally, Helen had a notable career that began with managing the Columbia City Dairy Queen from 1969 to 1974. Following that, she and Bob took a bold step into entrepreneurship by owning and operating the Corner Cupboard Restaurant from 1974 to 1984, located west of North Manchester on the corner of highways 114 and 15. After their venture into the restaurant industry, Helen continued to serve the community at the North Manchester Dairy Queen, and later took on a role as a cook for Manchester Community Schools, where she retired in 1997 after eight years of dedicated service.
Helen’s commitment to her faith was evident throughout her life. She grew up in the United Methodist Church and sustained her devotion by remaining active in her congregations at Larwill United Methodist Church and then the North Manchester United Methodist Church, where she was a cherished member.
Known for her pleasant demeanor, classy style, and strong will, Helen possessed a giving and servant’s heart that endeared her to many. She took immense pride in her family, loving them dearly, and instilled in them values of kindness and compassion. Helen enjoyed her walks, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life.
