Helen Boyd passed away on November 27, 2022 at the age of 89. Helen was born on July 17, 1933 at the Norfolk Protestant Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. She was the daughter of Avery Henry Williams and Helen Elizabeth (Bucking) Williams and was raised in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Helen graduated from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, PA with a B.S. in Music Education in May of 1955. She was a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha Iota, a National Honorary Music Fraternity for women.
Music was always an important ingredient in Helen's life. For twenty years she had a private studio in her home in Naperville, Illinois where she taught hundreds of children how to play the piano. For several years, she served as organist at Watchung Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield, New Jersey and organist and choir director of a number of churches beginning with the Methodist Church of Wayne, New Jersey. After moving to Hutchinson Island, Florida, she became the organist and developed a choir at All Villages Presbyterian Church in Port St. Lucie as well as assisting in the purchasing of an organ for that church. Mrs. Boyd later served as organist and choir director of the First Congressional United Church in Fort Pierce before retiring.
On August 20, 1955, Helen was married to Richard K. Boyd at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Helen and Richard moved from Illinois, where had lived for 20 years, then to Ocean Village in September 1994.
In addition to her husband, Richard, she is survived by daughter, Woodra Jeanne Boyd of Lake Conroe, Texas and son, Keith David Boyd of Dallas and sister, Avery Dunn of Wakefield, Maine.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.
