HELEN BRITTIAN Obituary
Helen Dorothea Dangerfield Brittain was born on December 17, 1928, in Saint Louis, Missouri to Titus and Cynsie Dangerfield. She was the youngest of 3 children.
Helen graduated from Sumner High School in 1946. She continued her education at Stowe Teachers College. While in her younger years, Helen fought for justice with sit-ins for the right of black people to sit and eat in restaurants.
Helen moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1950. She was working at the Indianapolis Finance Center when she fell in love with Harry M. Brittain, and they married on October 10, 1953. God blessed their union with 4 beautiful children, Thomas A., Diana L., Brian S., and Jerrold A. Brittain Sr.
Helen professed her faith in Christ in her younger years, so on her Christian path she joined Barnes United Methodist Church in 1955 where she served as a lifelong member.
Helen left the Finance Center and worked at Wishard Memorial Hospital for over 25 years as an Electroencephalographic Technologist. She also served a term as President of The Electroencephalographic Board. She retired from Wishard Hospital in 1983.
Helen loved to travel. She traveled extensively and had many interesting stories to tell about her Africa, Alaska, California, and many more trips. She was a member of Gamma Phi Delta, a professional women's sorority. She was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi, Silhouettes.
Helen was very creative, she loved crafts and arts, playing her piano, working on her crossword puzzles, and in her last few years became the queen of the game Rummikub. She loved to dance and could pick up all the new dances.
Helen loved life and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was the matriarch of the family, always there to lend a loving hand. She exemplified what a real woman should look like.
Helen Dorothea Dangerfield Brittain departed this earthly life on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the age of ninety-four years old. She was preceded in death by both parents, Cynsie and Titus Dangerfield; husband, Harry Brittain; both brothers, Titus Jr. and Lloyd Dangerfield Sr.; son, Thomas A. Brittain; and grandson, Aaron Brittain.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories daughter, Diana L. Brittain; sons, Brian S. Brittain and Jerrold A. Brittain Sr.; daughters-in-law, Lisa Brittain and Wanda Brittain; grandchildren, Erica Brittain, Jerrold Jr. (Monica) Brittain, Makeala Brittain, Monique Brittain (Shimir) Bishop, Brian Keith (Laura) Depp Jr., Brandi Brittain, and Crystal (Derek) Smith; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two, great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other extended families, and dear friends.

My father's only sister, I sat in his kitchen and talked with her as her niece and enjoyed the weekend getting to know her. I treasure the memory. Found some missing pieces of myself in that bonding experience.
