Helen Massey Cash

DURHAM ~ Helen Massey Cash, 91, passed peacefully into heaven Friday, August 15, 2025 at her home. She was born in Durham to the late Douglas and Effie Massey. She is also predeceased by her husband, George Watkins Cash and her brother, Hardy Massey.
She accepted Jesus into her heart as her Lord and Savior as a young girl of 16. She lived for, loved and worshipped Him for the rest of her Life. She is now resting in His loving arms.
The love of her life, George, was drafted into the Korean War for the US Army, and served this country Valiantly and with honor. On his return home, they were married and lived the next 68 years as sweethearts. They worked side-by-side in their Durham shoe shops for over 25 years, teaching their sons the trade from a young age. She worked with her son, Stephen, at his shoe shop in Raleigh for several years. She and George enjoyed being with, and traveling often, with their family members and life long friends. They opened their home to all of their friends and family and served many, may meals around their big dining room table. Helen was an amazing gardener, and avid reader (especially the Bible), a journal keeper, a devoted prayer warrior and a talented painter.
Mrs. Cash is survived by her sons, Gregory Cash of Durham and Stephen Cash (Debbie) of Raleigh; sister, Linda Smith (Roy); brother, Brant Massey; grandchildren, Priscilla Cash (Dylan), Nicole Cash; step-grandchildren, Kristen Williams (Dolan), Melissa Grissom (Michael); great-grandchild, Logan Stafford; step-great-grandchildren, Savannah, Noah and Levi Williams, Brynn, Avery and Finley Grissom, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Clements Funeral Home from 1:00-2:00 pm on Thursday, August 21, 2025. Funeral Service will be in the Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham on August 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham, NC.
