Barbara Jean Walker

Durham, NC - Barbara Jean Walker, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Duke Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous five-year battle with metastatic lung cancer.
Born in Durham to the late Holland Bruce Strickland and Frances Elizabeth Barber, Barbara was also preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Morgan Worthington.
In her younger years, Barbara worked at the Dairy Prints owned by her dad, Swift Packing Company, and Durham Drapery before ultimately retiring from Ticon Properties. She was also the proud owner of her own business, Ragtime Cleaning Services, which she operated for several years.
Barbara loved shag dancing, tending to her garden, and spending time near the water-whether at the beach, the lake, or the pool. She took great pride in keeping a beautiful yard filled with vibrant flowers. Known for her sweet tooth, she never turned down a good bowl of ice cream. She especially enjoyed teaching her grandchildren how to cook and sharing cherished family recipes. During hunting season, she was always ready with a kitchen full of warmth-and sausage biscuits-for all the kids heading out early in the morning.
She was a devoted member of Gorman Baptist Church where she was recently rebaptized, a moment of renewed faith that brought her great joy.
She is survived by her children: Thomas Luther Walker (wife Amie), Timothy Albert Walker (wife Amy), and Angela Gale Walker (Jimmy Roberts); grandchildren: Ashley Lauren Walker (Seth Bates), Katelynn Denton (husband Dylan), Hannah Nicole Walker, Zachary Wade Walker (wife Samantha), Kelsey Michelle Walker (Foster Yacos), and Madison Cheyenne Price (Tayven Boston); and her great-granddaughter, Josephine Sky Walker. She is also survived by her sister, Claudia Tart; brother, Tommy Strickland; special niece, Christina Patskonation (and family); and her beloved dog child, Charlie.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 8th, at Gorman Baptist Church in Durham, NC. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gorman Baptist Church in Barbara's memory.
