Helen Honeycutt DeBruhl, 96, of Lowers Gabriels Creek Road, Mars Hill, passed away to her heavenly home, Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Mission Hospital following a period of declining health. She was born September 7, 1928 to the late Bascombe and Carrie Crain Honeycutt. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Porter Fisher DeBruhl; brother, Howard Honeycutt and sisters, Faye Arrington and Frances Ponder.
Helen retired from Honeywell/Micro Switch in Mars Hill and worked at Roses in Weaverville for several years following her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, canning and preserving food and cooking for her family and friends. She loved her community and church family at Gabriels Creek Baptist Church, where she was a member.
She is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Karen DeBruhl of Hendersonville, Michael and Kay DeBruhl of Mars Hill, Bobby and Debra DeBruhl of Weaverville, and Mark and Sonya DeBruhl of Mars Hill; eight grandchildren, Amy DeBruhl Harrill, Brian DeBruhl, Kayla DeBruhl Avalos, Justin DeBruhl, Robert DeBruhl, Micah DeBruhl, Tyler DeBruhl and Caleb DeBruhl and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 4:00pm Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Gabriels Creek Baptist Church, 132 Gabriels Creek Road, Mars Hill. Reverend Brian Buckner will officiate. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00pm prior to the service.
Brian DeBruhl, Robert DeBruhl, Justin DeBruhl, Migel Avalos, Tyler DeBruhl and Caleb DeBruhl will serve as pallbearers.
