Helen Melrose Duffy

Helen Melrose Duffy, 84, of Port Washington, NY, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2023, at home. She was born on 6/12/1939 in Glasgow, Scotland, to the late Daniel and Sarah Jane Wilcox. She grew up in World War II. She was predeceased by brothers Daniel (Grace) Wilcox and Robert (Janette) Wilcox and two of six sisters Margaret (Victor) Schultz and Agnes (Johnny) McHoul.
Beloved wife to her husband John Duffy of 66 years, she is also survived by her sons John (Sophia Fu) Duffy III, Brian (Elizabeth) Duffy, Kenneth (Wendy) Duffy, and 5 grandchildren Dylan, Kay, Christopher, Logan, and Scarlett Duffy. She is also survived by sisters May Curatolo, Sadie Ruddy, Patricia (Gordon) Niven, and Isabel (Andrew) McConville. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and many friends. She is predeceased by brother- and sisters-in-law Grace Sheridan, Joan Orr, Isabel Kent, William Duffy, and Janette Mathieson.
Helen immigrated to the United States on the Queen Elizabeth I steam liner across the Atlantic Ocean with her infant son John to join her husband John (Ian) in the town of Port Washington, where they raised their family. She worked as a medical assistant to an Obstetrician and Gynecologist and a massage therapist. As a member of the United Methodist Church of Port Washington, she was active in the church for over 60 years. Helen loved taking walks at the beach and "skipping the stones. She was also a Scottish highland country dancer, where she would travel into Manhattan and Westchester to perform. Above all, Helen was kind and was a mom to all who knew her. Her greatest joy was her 3 boys, daughters-in-law, 5 grandchildren, and all her nieces and nephews.
All of those she loved and touched deeply, please join us on Wednesday afternoon October 18, 2023, from 2:00-4:00PM and 6:00-8:00PM at Roslyn Heights Funeral Home, 75 Mineola Ave, Roslyn Heights, NY 11577 followed by the church service on Thursday October 19, 2023, from 11:00-11:45AM at the United Methodist Church of Port Washington, 35 Middle Neck Road, Port Washington, NY 11050.
