Helen A. Hlavka (nee Kessler)
Passed away at Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, Sunday, April 20, 2025 at the age of 94 years.
Helen is survived by her devoted children Robert (Sally) Hlavka, Ann (Daniel) Smith, and William (Lory) Hlavka Cherished grandchildren Danny (Savannah) Smith, Sean (Breanna) Smith, Shane (Nicole) Smith, Billy Hlavka, Stephanie Hlavka, Doug Hlavka, and Gracie Smith; and her beloved great-grandchildren Logan, Lily, Owen, Oliver, and Jackson Smith.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years Clarence A. Hlavka (2021) and her brothers Charles V. Kessler, Jr. and Robert (Kathy) Kessler.
Born December 25, 1930 in Berwyn, Illinois to Charles V. and Jewel M. (nee Burke) Kessler, Helen attended Morton East High School and Triton Community College. She enjoyed a fulfilling career at Loyola Medical Center before retiring to focus on her greatest joy-her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A passionate traveler and accomplished horticulturist, Helen filled her home with vibrant houseplants and warmth.
Funeral services will be held at the Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., Tuesday, April 29th at 11:00 A.M. She will be laid to rest with her husband Clarence at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Memorials to Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago will be appreciated. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until time of services at 11:00 A.M.
