Helen Margaret DeBiew Johnson

The gates of Heaven flew wide open on Monday, December 8, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. receiving Helen DeBiew Johnson to her forever home. She was 101 years old. Helen, or "Momie" as she was affectionately known, was born on May 17, 1924, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the proud daughter of the late Corella DeBiew Sullivan and Poland DeBiew, and the stepdaughter of the late Bennie L. Sullivan. Helen met and married the late Jim Johnson, Jr., and to their union they had six beautiful children. Helen was an educator for over 40 years in the Orleans Parish School system but, more importantly, she was a woman of God. She was a member of the Second Zion Baptist Church No. 2 for 91 years. She leaves to cherish her memory six children: Lynn, Rudy (Estella), Cheryl, Cleveland, Sr. (Tracy), Wayne (Mary), and Andre', Sr. (Nicole); two bonus children: Avery, Sr. (Cassandra) and Andrea Johnson; ten grandchildren: Chante, Taesha (Thomas), Katera (Kevin), Cleveland, Jr., Tamyra (Victonio), Tinesha, Andre', Jr. (Rae'ven), Chloe, Nadia and Tyrin; two bonus grandchildren: Troy and Travis Magee; six great-grandchildren: Anderson, Jr., Ka'ja, Chase, Bella Rose, Clay and Claire; a devoted cousin in Whilda Johnston; and finally, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws, and many friends. She's preceded in death by her parents: Corella DeBiew Sullivan and Poland DeBiew; her stepfather, Bennie L. Sullivan; a sister, Dorothy Montgomery; and two brothers: Clarence and James DeBiew. A Homegoing Celebration will take place on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Second Zion Baptist Church No. 2, 3333 Third Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Chrissell Rhone, officiating. Viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. until the start of service. Interment will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery. Pastors, officers and members of the Second Zion B. C. #2, Franklin Avenue B.C., Olive Branch B.C., Greater Evergreen B.C., and UTold Ministry are invited to attend.
