Helen Morris Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 20, 2025.
Helen Marie Morris (Polk), age 79, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, in Pensacola, Florida. Born on September 25, 1945, in Pensacola, she remained a lifelong resident of the city she loved.
Helen graduated from Pensacola Technical High School in 1963, where she was part of the Cosmetology program. After earning her beautician license, she began her career as a beautician and worked at Gayfers and other local salons. She later devoted herself to being a full-time housewife. Following the passing of her first husband, James Knowles Sr., Helen reentered the workforce, first as a school bus driver and later as an equipment operator for the county road department.
Helen was deeply devoted to her family and community. She is survived by her daughter Sherry (Richard) Lewis; granddaughter Ashley Lewis; grandson Zach (Melissa) Lewis; great-granddaughter Twyla M. Lewis; brother George (Nora) Polk; sister-in-law Jo Ann Polk; nephews Edwin Pardue and Dean (Virginia) Polk; nieces Patricia Polk and Debbie Harrison; as well as many other relatives and friends who were touched by her kindness.
She was preceded in death by her father Eugene Polk; mother Corine Polk; sister Betty Pardue; brother Billie Polk; first husband James Knowles Sr.; and son James Knowles Jr.
Helen had a zest for life that shone through in everything she did. She loved fishing whenever the opportunity arose and cherished camping trips with her children, family, and friends. Seasonal dove hunts with her brothers were among her favorite traditions. Later in life, Helen embraced a new passion-dirt track racing-and proudly owned car #14M, spending countless weekends at the track surrounded by loved ones.
A woman of faith, Helen attended Community Baptist Church where she found joy in fellowship and worship. She often invited family and friends to join her at services and never hesitated to offer rides to those who needed them.
Known for her warm heart and generous spirit, Helen never met a stranger. She took genuine interest in others' lives and was always ready to lend a helping hand or open her home to those needing support or a fresh start.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Vitas Hospice for their compassionate care during Helen's final days. Special appreciation goes to nurses Amber-who listened with patience and warmth-and Jillian-for her comforting presence during those last visits.
Helen's legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will live on in all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those whose lives she touched. A Graveside Service will be held on August 21, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Jay Cemetery 14408 Hwy 89, Jay Florida
