Helen Joyce Porter, born on January 5, 1935, in Plain, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, she leaves behind a rich legacy of love, creativity, and community service.
Helen embarked on a fulfilling career with Sears, where she served for many years in advertising and sales before retiring. Beyond her professional endeavors, she had a profound passion for cooking, tending to her flower garden, and painting.
In her retirement, Helen found joy in traveling across the country with her husband, enjoying adventures in their Airstream. Those journeys created lasting memories that reflected her love for exploration and discovery. She was also deeply involved in her local community, being an active member at the First Methodist Church of Richland. Helen engaged in numerous church activities and volunteered at the food bank, which played a vital role in the Mississippi food network, until health challenges prevented her from continuing her participation.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Rita Wigal of Richland; her sons, Randy Chapman and wife Loretta of Braxton, and Ricky Chapman and wife Tina of Richland; and her grandchildren, Bridget Dunlap and husband Ryan, Whitney Beard and husband James, Ashley Chapman, Shanna Chapman, David Chapman, Daniel Chapman and wife Kristen, and Heather White and husband Chris. She also cherished her great-grandchildren, Kennedy Dunlap, Blakely Dunlap, Emery Beard, Haden Chapman, Myles Chapman, Kobyn Chapman, Noah Yamas, Ava Yamas, Tanner Coleman, and Harper White. Additionally, Helen is remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who were touched by her kindness and spirit.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Bill and Wydell Wilson; her beloved husband, Claude Porter; and four brothers, Bo, Howard, Leroy, and Richard Wilson.
A visitation to honor Helen will be held on Tuesday November 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Chancellor Funeral Home Florence, located at 2576 US 49, Florence, MS. A graveside service will take place afterward at Richland Cemetery at 12:00 PM.
Helen Joyce Porter’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her in return. Her unwavering support, vibrant spirit, and commitment to her family and community will be greatly missed.
