Helen Louise Schwarzer, age 94 of Higginsville, Missouri died on Friday, December 13, 2013, at Golden Living Center New Haven in Odessa, Missouri. Born Saturday, November 8, 1919 in Concordia, Missouri, she was the daughter of Henry Schroeder and Florence E. (Lampe) Schroeder. She was united in marriage to Francis "Frank" Schwarzer Tuesday, June 30, 1942. He preceded her in death August 17, 1985. Also preceded in death are her parents. Mrs. Schwarzer lived most of her life in Higginsville. She worked as Unit Director at the Higginsville Habilitation Center for 45 years, retiring in 2006. She was a 1937 graduate of Higginsville High School and then graduated from the Research School of Nursing and was the oldest active Registered Nurse in the state of Missouri, being licensed for 73 years. She was a member of Higginsville American Legion Auxiliary, Higginsville Civic Club, Chamber of Commerce and Higginsville Habilitation Center Parent's Association. Surviving are two sons, Frank (Cindy) Schwarzer of New York City, New York, George (Fran) Schwarzer of Higginsville; honorary son, Dr. Dal Singh, M.D. of Higginsville; four grandchildren, Alexander (Julianne) Schwarzer, Samuel (Cassie) Doss, Michael (Amy) Doss, Timothy Doss; six great grandchildren, Aiden, Douglas, Ian, Emily, Brennan and Annie Doss. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at First Baptist Church, 1907 Peach St. Higginsville with Dr. Greg Fine officiating, Rev. Dale Felder and Rev. Wilbur Conway assisting, Patricia Holtcamp as vocalist and Evelyn Elmore as soloist. Interment will be in the Higginsville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. on Friday at Hoefer Funeral Home, 1600 Main St., Higginsville. Memorial contributions may be sent to Family Choice. Pallbearers are Gerald Brubeck, Alan Falls, David Holtcamp, Richard Payne, David Pollard, and Mike Silkwood. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Brennan, Michael Doss, Samuel Doss, Timothy Doss, Alexander Schwarzer, Wilburn Woods, Bonnie Fischer, Mary Fisher, Annerose Woods, Blanche Knipmeyer, Sherry Kilpatrick and Karla Neal.
