Helen Ugolini

Helen Madaline Ugolini, 96, a life-long resident of Walsenburg, Colorado, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023. Born on July 7, 1927, to immigrant parents Mike C. and Anne (Kosovic) Stimack, Helen spent her life actively involved in the community and with St. Mary Catholic Church and School.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Barbara Harvey (Phil-deceased), Joni Ugolini, Toni (Dennis) Brgoch, Kathy (William Jr) Mattenklodt, Francy (Tasos) Nastas, and Sandy (Scott) Hendrickson; her sister-in-law, Alena Stimack, 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen graduated from St. Mary High School in 1945. She married John Gerald Ugolini in 1949 and together they chose to remain in Walsenburg to raise their seven girls. Upon graduation from high school, she immediately began her professional career at Dr. Charles Brunelli's Dentist Office followed by several years at JCPenney and the JCPenney Catalog Department. Her next job change was to Huerfano County Memorial Hospital Administration Office, and finally to the Star Drug Store where she remained until October 1999. Helen was dedicated to volunteer work, and her efforts included President of the PTA, President of CDA, St. Mary High School Marching Band Director, and assisting with the Senior Outreach Program. She spearheaded numerous school and church fundraising activities like ravioli dinners, school bazaars, BINGO nights, after-prom breakfasts, and her famous Super Bowl Board. Helen was an avid card player, enjoyed the camaraderie of bowling with her teammates, and loved all holidays. Most of all, she always had her suitcase packed and ready to go whether for a simple weekend to Denver or something far more adventurous.
Her greatest joy was traveling to any and all sporting events to support her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She knew no stranger, her door was always open, and there were never too many children in the house or yard. She lived her life with deep faith by taking "one day at a time"!
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, John Gerald; her daughter, Jerri; her parents, Mike and Anne Stimack; her four brothers, J.J., Mike, Bob and Frank Stimack; and her father and mother-in-law, Tom and Minnie Ugolini.
Services for Helen will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. (Rosary), 10:00 a.m. (Mass) at St. Mary Catholic Church in Walsenburg, Colorado. Burial will be at North St. Mary Cemetery followed by a reception at Delaney Hall, located directly behind St. Mary Catholic Church, 121 East 7th Street, Walsenburg, CO.
