Helene Frances Striebinger Reisman,75, was born May 22, 1948, and passed away December 31,, 2023. She was raised on Lookout Mountain in Tennessee, the daughter of William Earl Striebinger and Frances Lippett Wilcox Striebinger. She graduated from Girls Preparatory School in 1966 and The University of Tennessee, Chattanooga in 1970.
Helene married her high school sweetheart and enjoyed 28 years of marriage with her husband, Michael, before his untimely passing. She loved her daughter Wendy and son Will with her whole heart and was there for them, encouraging and supporting them. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren both daily and on annual trips to the beach. Her kindness, laughter and generosity were infinite.
Helene worked in finance and bookkeeping for over 40 years. She worked for several area businesses while managing the finances for her husband's business, The Chilhowee Gliderport. Known for her infectious laugh, she worked in the GPS Business office for 25 years where she kept the teachers, coaches, administrators as well as the maintenance office dotting their i's and crossing their t's.
While a student at GPS, Helene was selected as the 1966 GPS May Queen while also winning the prestigious Senior Scholarship Award and the Robinson Sportsmanship Award. She was inducted into the GPS Athletic Hall of Fame for her competition in Volleyball, Basketball and Swimming/Diving. She was the first freshman to ever be awarded the GPS "letter" for points award during intramural activities.
She was actively involved in the Junior League of Chattanooga for many years as well as serving as treasurer of the board.
Helene was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Mathews Reisman and her parents, William Earl Striebinger and Frances Lippett Wilcox Striebinger.
She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Reisman Mills (Perry) of Signal Mountain, TN; son, William Michael Reisman (Natalie) of Lookout Mountain, TN; grandchildren, Michael and Lawson Barrueta and Jackson, Lauren, and Barrett Reisman.
The family will receive friends at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 211 Franklin Road, Lookout Mountain, TN this Friday January 5th from 3pm to 345pm. The service will begin at 4pm followed by a burial in the Harriett Caldwell Memorial Garden. The family will also hold a gathering for friends and family immediately following the ceremony at the Reisman home on Fleetwood Drive to further celebrate her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Girls Preparatory School or a charity of your choice.
