Dr. Hema Walia
March 1, 1950 - November 15, 2025
With heavy hearts, we share the sad news of the passing of Dr. Hema Walia of
Fort Pierce, FL, who left for her heavenly abode on November 15, 2025.
Dr. Hema Walia (née Chauhan) was born in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, India on March 1, 1950. From an early age, she was curious, compassionate and deeply connected to the world around her. That same spirit led her to medicine. She graduated from Indira Gandhi Medical College Shimla, India and completed her Residency at West Chester County Hospital in New York. She worked as an Asst. Professor of Anesthesiology at New York Medical College before moving to St. Lucie County, Florida, where she continued her career as an Anesthesiologist at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.
But her true story isn't just what she accomplished. It was how she lived. The calm strength and the steady grace that she carried into every moment.
For 42 years, Dr. Hema Walia walked alongside her husband in a partnership rooted in understanding and genuine affection. Her husband admired her loyalty, patience and quiet fortitude with which she navigated every season of life. As a mother, she loved fiercely. Her daughter was her joy, her life, and her light. She taught her to be kind, to stay grounded, to appreciate life as it is. Their bond grew even stronger in recent years, shaped by trust and mutual respect.
Dr. Hema Walia had the rare ability to make people feel seen and valued. Her friends remember her as a vibrant, sociable person, who brought joy into any gathering. She was elegant without pretense and had a soothing presence that put people at ease. She had a natural ability to connect with people across generations. She was known for her generosity with her time and energy and created joy wherever she could, turning small moments into celebrations and offering comfort without being asked. She found happiness in the things that made life feel full. She loved to cook and to host, filling her home with the comfort of good food and warm hospitality. She enjoyed singing and dancing, never missing a chance to bring a little lightness into the moment. She enjoyed traveling all over the world and loved flowers and animals - simple pleasures she embraced with an open heart.
Dr. Hema Walia was exceptionally intelligent, with a sharp insight and quiet wisdom. She lived by a simple, steady philosophy: to be kind, to let go of what did not matter, and to meet each day with gratitude. She believed strength could be gentle and that love was something you proved through action, not words. She carried no ego, held no grudges and moved through life with a humility, always putting the needs of others ahead of her own. Her positivity was steady and her patience shaped every relationship she touched. In spite of her many health challenges, she had an unlimited zest for life. She endured pain without complaint and continued to live each day to the fullest, with dignity, grace and resilience. She made life softer for those around her and her way of living was her quiet teaching: appreciate the present, serve others with sincerity and face life's challenges with grace. And this has become her legacy.
Dr. Hema Walia is survived by her loving husband, her beloved daughter, and a wide circle of family and friends who will forever miss her gentle presence and generous spirit.
The family of Dr. Hema Walia wishes to thank the medical staff at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital,
