Henrietta Cook departed this life at the age of 83 on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Born on October 24, 1941, in
York, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late John and Lovie Jamison. A proud 1959 graduate of William Penn High School, she later went on to earn her Master of Arts in Human Services from Lincoln University in 1981.
Professionally, Henrietta devoted her life to uplifting others as Program Director of Community Centers and the Supported Work Program at Community Progress Council in York. She championed underserved families and oversaw several Community Centers across York County. She retired in 2010 after a long and impactful career, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, leadership, and unwavering dedication to community empowerment.
Affectionately known for her warmth and wisdom, Henrietta was a tireless community activist, and a skilled grant writer who used her talents to implement programs that changed lives. Throughout her life, she was honored by many organizations and served on several boards. She appeared in the news as early as 1973 for her activism in Parkway. Prior to her retirement she was a 2007 Honoree of the Four Chaplains' Memorial of York County.
She had an unwavering faith and began her Christian journey singing in the Manning choir, later served as a church trustee and was an integral part of the kitchen ministry at Shiloh Baptist Church where her pineapple upside down cake was in high demand. Cornerstone Baptist Church was her church home until she was called to glory. She cherished the memory of cooking food with her late mother to feed the homeless at Jefferson Community Center. She also found joy in sewing, baking, and never missed a chance to indulge her sweet tooth.
She was the devoted wife of the late William L. Cook. She was preceded in death by her beloved sons, Lance Jamison and William Baxter; grandchildren, Jerome Jamison and Kayla Smith; and siblings Janice Jamison, Thomas Jamison, Freddie Jamison, and Terry Jamison.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Linda Jamison, Tina (Mike) Hatcher, Karen Baxter, Twanda Jamison, William (Billa) Jamison, and Penny (Clarence) Smith. She also leaves behind her siblings: Nancy Thomas, John (Carmen) Jamison, Leroy (Carmen) Jamison, and Shirley Jamison.
