Henry David Balow, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on July 12, 2024. He was born on April 24, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to parents Henry and Martha (Plotzka) Balow. David led a life marked by dedication to his family, career, and community.
David graduated from Austin High School and furthered his education at the University of Detroit. His professional life was notably spent at the Michigan Bell Telephone Company, where he dedicated over 30 years before retiring.
A devout Catholic, David was an active member of St. Hugo's Parish for nearly 50 years. His service to the country as a Marine Corps veteran reflected his deep-seated patriotism. David's personal life was enriched by his marriage to Barbara in 1963, with whom he shared a profound and enduring love.
Known for his quiet yet impactful presence, David was a family man at his core, deeply devoted to his children and known for his patience and nurturing spirit. His interests were diverse, including skiing, sailing, golfing, playing bridge, and engaging in various outdoor activities. He selflessly shared his time and talents which enriched the lives of his children and grandchildren.
David is celebrated for his role as a champion of his family, often placing the needs of others before his own, a testament to his generous and supportive nature. He is believed to have been touched by the miraculous influence of Father Solanus Casey, which deeply shaped his approach to life.
Preceded in death by his six siblings, David's legacy continues through his wife, Barbara (Halsted), his children Babbie Thomas (Terry), Brad Balow (Amy), Brian Balow (Carey), Becky Wiltgen (Rick), and Brendan Balow (Adrienne), along with his fifteen grandchildren: Thomas, Sean, Sarah, Emily, Patrick, Tabitha, Maggie, Charlie, Aidan, Lily, Mary Beth, Keegan, Annie, Ryan, and Henry.
David Balow's life was a beacon of love, service, and community, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Funeral Mass for David will be Friday, July 19, at 10:00 AM at St. Hugo of the Hills Stone Chapel, 2215 Opdyke Rd, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304. Visitation at church begins at 9:30 AM.
