Henry Caldwell Obituary

Henry Gray Caldwell
July 25, 2020 - January 8, 2022
Charlotte, North Carolina - Henry Gray Caldwell, deeply loved son and baby brother, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep in the early morning of Saturday, January 8, 2022. He was not quite 1-and-a-half years old.
Henry was born in Charlotte on July 25, 2020, and was the absolute, unequivocal best of us. Born smack dab in the middle of a global pandemic, he very well may have been the happiest baby we've ever met. He loved chocolate chip waffles, making animal noises – you should've heard his dog, it was incredible – and teasing with his big sister, Mary Carol (5). Henry loved waving bye-bye and blowing a kiss when it was time to leave somewhere, even when it was simply time to go to bed. He loved coloring, and climbing, and faceplanting onto couch pillows, and countless other things that we now won't be able to see blossom in the years ahead. Most of all, Henry loved his family, and his family loved him back with a fierceness that we can feel now, sharply. This loss has left a hole that will never be filled. He was just starting to walk and talk, and it is incredibly unfair that the world will not get to see all that Henry Gray Caldwell had to offer, but he packed a heck of a lot into his 17-and-a-half months.
Henry is survived by his parents, Gray and Abigail Caldwell, who feel so incredibly lucky and proud to have been his parents; his unbelievably caring big sister, Mary Carol; grandparents, Julie and Stoke Caldwell and Ann and Rob Hecker; cousins, Julia and Margaret Harnett; aunt Lauren Harnett and uncles, Jacob Hecker and Max Harnett. He is also survived by many great aunts, great uncles, cousins of all sorts and dear friends, all of whom loved him to the moon and back.
What a light Henry Gray brought to this world, and we will spend the rest of our lives making sure it is never extinguished. We love you, baby boy.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 14, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Trade Street in Charlotte. The service will be livestreamed at www.firstpres-charlotte.org/live for those unable to attend in person. Masks are required for those in attendance.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be offered in memory of Henry to the Child Development Center at First Presbyterian Church or a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are in the care of Kenneth W. Poe Funeral & Cremation Service, 1321 Berkeley Ave., Charlotte, NC 28204; (704) 641-7606. Online condolences may be shared at www.kennethpoeservices.com.
