Henry Llewellyn Chapman

Henry Llewellyn "Tripp" Chapman III of Elgin, Illinois passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from acute leukemia at age 50 on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, Illinois. He is survived by his loving wife, Dina Chapman, nee Wright and cherished daughters, Alia Chapman (13), and Avery Chapman (11).

Tripp was born on October 6, 1973, in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Henry Llewellyn "Chappie" and Janice (Zweifel) Chapman. He grew up in Dunlap, Illinois, where he played and lettered in both basketball and football at Dunlap High School. He shared his love of sports and physical activity with his family, whether he was cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals with his dad and brother Carter, playing tennis, golfing, or going on annual family ski trips to Colorado. He also enjoyed the experience of traveling overseas and throughout the US with his family and friends.

Tripp graduated from Indiana University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance, in 1996. While on campus, he was an active member in the Theta Chi fraternity where he held the offices of Pledge Training Chairman and Education/Scholarship Chairman. He would often reminisce on his time at IU, where he made lifelong friends and developed a strong sense of camaraderie, care, and responsibility for his Theta Chi brothers.

Following graduation from Indiana University, Tripp moved to Chicago where he took a position at Kemper Securities and worked for three and a half years before moving to Credit Suisse. In his personal time, he stayed active, completing Chicago Marathon races, multiple Triathlons, and even a half Iron Man race as his loved ones cheered him on. He also remained an avid snow skier, swimmer, and participant of pick-up basketball games with friends. Tripp was a fierce competitor but mainly enjoyed challenging himself physically, always striving towards and achieving his goals.

In 2002, Tripp moved to Nashville, Tennessee to attend the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, earning an MBA in Finance. While in the program, he thrived in the musical environment of Nashville where he took guitar and drum lessons that he continued to the present time, a passion he was able to spend many hours sharing with his girls.

Upon completion of his MBA in 2004, he returned to Chicago where he spent the last 20 years as a registered financial advisor and Vice President of Investments with Wells Fargo Advisors. It was in Chicago that he met the love of his life, Dina, in 2006 and bonded with her over their shared love of music and kindred values. They were married on March 14, 2009 at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago and eventually moved to Elgin, Illinois to raise their two daughters, Alia and Avery.

Tripp was a gentle man, always calm, faithful, loyal and fun. He cherished and nurtured the relationships in his life, always serving those around him with his sound advice, listening ear, humility, and grounded perspective on life. His kindness was always authentic and freely given. His integrity and altruism reached every corner of his life, as a knowledgeable and respected financial advisor, a fiercely loyal and compassionate friend, and a devoted son, brother, husband and father. He was an incredibly accomplished man in his professional work, his personal goals, and his athleticism, but his true pride was his daughters, whom he loved deeply and took pride in their every accomplishment.

In addition to his wife and daughters, Tripp is survived by his mother, Janice Chapman, nee Zweifel; brother, John Carter (Laura) Chapman; parents in law, Walter and Judy Wright, nee Autry; sister in law, Donna (the late Steve) Watwood; nieces and nephew, John Carter Jr., Colette and Elle Chapman and Madison, Megan and Morgan Watwood; aunts, Carol (the late William) Dikeman and Joan Stanisic (Bill Shay); cousins, Kimberly (the late Dr. William) Cusack, Kara (Matthew) Clemente, Dr. Lindsay Powers (Thomas Hight) and Katherine (Dr. Stephen) Wehmeyer.

Tripp was preceded in death by his father, Henry Llewellyn "Chappie" Chapman Jr. and his grandparents, the late Henry L. Sr. and Clementine Chapman and the late George and Meridith Zweifel.

Tripp's loving heart and his rich spirit will be missed beyond measure, but will continue to live on in his daughters Alia and Avery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27th, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Bucaro Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 485 W. Army Trail Rd., Bloomingdale and on Saturday, September 28th from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 215 Thomas More Drive, Elgin.
