Henry Etta Edwards Bone, of Gatesville, passed away on February 12, 2026. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 19 at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. Interment will follow at Davidson Cemetery in Mound. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service.

Henry Etta Edwards was born in Leon Junction, just outside of Gatesville, to Cecil and Lena Edwards on July 30,1931. She grew up with her siblings Jake, Mildred and Charles picking cotton, walking to school and doing chores. Later when her brother Jake lived in town, she met his roommate Pat Bone. The story is that Pat Bone started up his car on top of the hill by her house and had it going pretty fast when he asked her Daddy if he could marry her. Thankfully, her Daddy said yes, so Pat and Henry Etta met at the house of the Justice of the Peace and got married.

Cecil was their first son followed by Bobby then Joe. Years passed, Cecil and Bobby were in college and Joe would soon be graduating high school when Henry Etta wasn't feeling well and went to the doctor. He told her the unbelievable. She was expecting another baby. She made the doctor tell Pat because she just couldn't! They had a baby girl, Patti, to complete the family.

Henry Etta loved to eat good food, laugh and shout BINGO! She could cook the best chicken and dressing, peach cobbler, and canned green beans, just to name a few. Like many country cooks, her recipes were mostly in her head so a person had to ask and take notes if they wanted to know the real way to make fried pies. She loved her family and would stand by them through good times and bad. She would pray, send notes and the occasional $20 just to help out. Her bible was always close and her spot on the church pew saved. Many called her Granny and that was fine. When she called you her friend, you knew in your heart she loved you as much as kin.

She had many sayings but her favorite was "I'm too mean to die." She would say this often and around anyone, anytime. But, at age 94, she really wasn't mean at all. When God called her home, she was waiting peacefully with family, ready to go. She left us in a very beautiful way, she just needed to rest her eyes a minute.

Henry Etta was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Lena Edwards; siblings, Jake, Mildred and Charles Edwards; husband, Pat Bone; son, Cecil Bone; and grandsons, Zane Bone and Matthew Bone.

Henry Etta is survived by her children, Bobby Bone, Joe Bone and wife, Glenda, and Patti Bone and husband, James Dobbs; grandchildren, Amanda and husband, Reid Daly, Rachael and husband Ben Armstrong, Michael and wife Jessica Bone, Tillman and wife Tiffany Williams, and Payton Williams; and great grandchildren, Kendall Bone, Lainey Bone, Kinzley, Bone, Kasadee Bone, Hailey Coe, Nina Coe and Jay Coe.
