Henry Fleming, Sr. Obituary

With full hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Henry I. Fleming Sr., who left this world peacefully on April 13, 2025, at the age of 80.

Born on July 7, 1944, in Baltimore, Maryland, Henry grew up with a strong sense of duty and compassion. As a young man, he answered his country’s call by joining the United States Navy. His service instilled in him a sense of discipline, pride, and resilience that he carried with him for the rest of his life. After returning home, Henry continued his life of service as a Baltimore County fireman, a role he held with honor and courage for 25 years. Whether in uniform on a ship or on the back of a fire engine, Henry answered every call with courage and selflessness.

Henry was the beloved husband of Mary Melissa (Asquith) Fleming, his devoted wife of 60 years. Together they built a legacy rooted in family, faith, and enduring love. He was the proud and loving father of Henry (Bonnie) Fleming, Kimberly (Mark) Naumann, Melissa (Chris) Malecki, and Bonnie (Simon) Cruz. He reveled in watching his family grow, taking great pride in his grandchildren: Henry (Sabrina) Fleming, Bradley (Ariel) Fleming, Jessica (Kyle) Riley, Kyle Blucher, Zack Malecki, Brandon (Morgan) Malecki, Jordan Malecki, and Ian Motsinger. His joy only deepened with the arrival of his great-grandchildren: Jade Laster, Eli, Avery, and Camden Malecki.Henry leaves behind his three sisters and a large extended family who loved him dearly. To all of them, he was more than a husband, father or grandfather—he was a steady presence and a loving supporter.

Henry was a man who found wonder in the world. He loved motorcycles—the feel of the open road and the sense of freedom it brought. He had a lifelong fascination with trains, from model sets to real-life locomotives that reminded him of a simpler, quieter time. And perhaps most passionately, he held a deep love for Ireland—the music, the landscapes, the history. Though he never lived there, a piece of his heart always seemed to dwell on the Emerald Isle.

To those who knew him, Henry was a man of few words but great depth. He was humble, thoughtful, and deeply loyal. He never sought recognition, yet he left a lasting impression on everyone who crossed his path. He was the one you could count on—the one who showed up, who listened, who stayed calm in the storm.

We invite all who loved Henry to join us in celebrating his life on Thursday at 10am at Ambrose Funeral Home of Lansdowne where a viewing will take place Wednesday from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. Together, we will honor his memory, share stories, and reflect on the lasting impact of a truly remarkable man.

Fair winds and following seas, Sailor.

Your duty is done. Your watch has ended. Rest easy.

Irish Blessing

May the road rise up to meet you,

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

And rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

We love you, Henry. We love you, Dad.Your story, your laughter, and your light will forever live on in each of us.
