Henry Joe Jacobson 57, of Dysart, IA, died Monday, March 17, 2025, at home surrounded by his family following his courageous battle with cancer. Henry was born in Waterloo, IA on June 24, 1967, to Larry Jacobson and Sandra (Bartlett) Bonis. He lived in Iowa until the late 1970’s when their family relocated to San Diego, CA. There he developed a deep love and appreciation for the Pacific Ocean and was an avid surfer. He returned to the Waterloo area in 1987.

In August of 1988, he met the love of his life, Paulette Haresky, through a mutual friend. They were united in marriage on May 25, 1991, at St Ansgar Church in Waterloo, IA. They resided in Waterloo until making the move to Dysart in October of 2002 where they raised their four beautiful children.

Henry started his work journey in 1987 by partnering with his father to start their business, H & L Tree Service where he worked until going to work at IBP in 1991. He worked there for over 7 years until he became a union ironworker with Local 89 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He began working for Weitz Industrial in 2003 and moved up through the ranks to become a superintendent for the company. Henry was always a hard worker, a mentor, and a motivator for all that he worked with. He loved being an ironworker and took pride in getting his hands dirty even when it was not required of him. He never asked anyone to do a task or job that he wasn’t willing to do himself.

In his spare time, Henry enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. He also loved spending time with his “best friend” Logan Henry and would often sing the tune, “Let me tell you about my best friend” when he was with him. Being Logan’s “Bocka” was one of his greatest pleasures in life. He was an amazing cook and considered himself to be an amateur foodie. He enjoyed growing his own tomatoes, jalapenos and ghost peppers and loved hot, spicy foods. He also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers play football, fishing, traveling, Morrel mushroom hunting, watching movies with his family, listening to 80’s new wave music, 90’s music, and he enjoyed going to concerts with his family. He spent his summer leisure time in his swimming pool with his family and loved the sun. He was the ROCK of his family and was often Mr. Fixit, even when he didn’t want to be. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready with a quick comeback. His laughter was as infectious as his smile and his beautiful blue eyes.

Henry is survived by his wife, Paulette, of Dysart, IA; two sons, Christopher (Kelsey) Jacobson of Washburn, IA, Benjamin Jacobson, of Dysart, IA; twin daughters, Jennifer and Jessica Jacobson, both of Dysart, IA; one grandson, Logan Henry Jacobson, of Washburn, IA; and one special son, Korie Parsons, of Waterloo, IA; his mother, Sandra Bonis, of Ankeny, IA; two brothers, Larry (Betty Smith) Jacobson, of Waterloo, IA and Mike (Kellie) Jacobson of Cedar Rapids, IA; two sisters, Angie (Lee) Drinovsky of Waterloo, IA and Stefanie (Josh) Hastie of Ankeny, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Henry is preceded in death by his father, Larry Joe Jacobson, Sr, and one brother who died in infancy, Leslie Jacobson.

Services will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, 11:00 am at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo, IA. There will be a visitation on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Parrott and Wood Chapel of Memories, 965 Home Plaza, Waterloo, IA.
