Moody Funeral Service & Crematory - DobsonHenry Clyde Johnson passed away on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026. Clyde was born on November 8th, 1931, in Chatham County, NC.
Clyde spent many years in his beloved Chatham County. After leaving the Navy in 1954 and attending college, he started his career as a high school math teacher. Clyde always shared many fond memories from his days at Chatham Central High School and spoke about his students often. Clyde and his family moved to Dobson in 1966, where he became the Business Manager for Surry Community College until his retirement in 1990. Clyde was always eager to share his stories from “the college”.
Clyde was dependable, generous, and caring. He and Treva loved spending time at the beach in Emerald Isle, where he became known for his barefoot beach fishing. Clyde was a member of Dobson First Baptist Church, an avid reader, and loved to learn new things. He enjoyed many hobbies, including woodworking. Above all, Clyde loved to spend time with people. He was always excited to meet new people and stayed in touch with many people he met over the years.
Clyde was preceded in death by his loving wife of over sixty-four years, Treva Mae Poe Johnson; his parents, Ulysses Grant “UG” Johnson and Annie Laura Bray Johnson; siblings Mary Frances Davis and John M Johnson.
Clyde is survived by his daughter Sharon Johnson Allen (David) of Liberty, NC and granddaughter Laura Allen Serratos (Daniel) of Durham, NC. Clyde was fortunate to live a life full of many friends, and the family is grateful for everyone, including Robin, Joe, and his special caregivers Cathy 1 and Cathy 2.
Visitation will be held at Dobson First Baptist Church (204 S Crutchfield St, Dobson, NC 27017) on Friday, March 6th beginning at Noon, with service to follow at 2:00pm, officiated by Pastor Cory Honeycutt.
