Henry James Kooistra, 63, of Stroudsburg, PA, passed away on February 14, 2025. Born on April 15, 1961, he grew up in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, where he made lifelong memories and friendships.
Henry was predeceased by his parents, Henry King Kooistra and Mary Troyano. He is survived by his loving wife, Raquel Kooistra; his children, Emily Squires (Robert III) and James Kooistra; and his stepdaughter, Mariangel Arrieche. He also leaves behind his beloved grandson, Robert Squires IV, who brought him immense joy. Henry is also survived by his sister, Barbara Maylath (Richard); his brother, Kevin Kooistra (Julie); his stepmother, Rozanne Kooistra; as well as cherished nieces, nephews, an uncle, an aunt, and dear friends.
During his time in Saddle Brook, Henry was a dedicated volunteer firefighter, serving his community with courage and selflessness. Helping others was always at the heart of who he was.
Henry was strong and tender. He had a great work ethic, but was mostly known for being the life of the party. His laugh was infectious. He brought warmth to everyone around him. His kind heart and genuine care for others made him a friend to everyone he met. Later in life, he reconnected with his faith, finding peace and strength in his relationship with God. However, his greatest happiness came from being a grandfather, a role he treasured deeply.
Henry's presence will be deeply missed, but his love, laughter, and generous spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A celebration of Henry's life will be held at Vander Plaat Memorial Home of Paramus on Saturday, February 22nd from 1 - 4pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Saddle Brook, NJ Fire Department.
