Henry James Landry, Jr. died on December 20, 2024 at The Barclay House of Baton Rouge due to complications from vascular dementia. He was born on January 20,1948 in Paincourtville, Louisiana. Henry spent his childhood on Armelise Plantation in Paincourtville enjoying country life with his twin brother, Gregory. 

He graduated from Assumption High School and attended LSU for 1.5 years before joining the U.S. Marine Corps. During his 4 years in the Marine Corps, he obtained the rank of sergeantwhile stationed in San Diego, CA, Yuma, AZ, Vietnam, Japan, and El Toro, CA earning several commendations.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Henry returned to LSU and graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering and obtained his professional engineering license.

After graduation, he worked for John Deere Des Moines Works in Ankeny, Iowa. There he designed various equipment and obtained several patents for John Deere during his eleven years with the company. 

In 1985, the family moved from Ankeny, Iowa back to Louisiana. Henry managed Sunshine Equipment Company for 19 years. He then changed fields and purchased International Manufacturers Representatives, Inc. in Baton Rouge.

Henry spent time on genealogy researching family history which was a love he shared with his mother. He loved planning and designing everything from JD equipment to boats. If broken things could be fixed, Henry could fix them.

Being a father and grandfather were Henry’s greatest joys in life. He loved his family, immediate and extended. He set a wonderful example that hard work, discipline, and accountability can help you accomplish all life’s dreams.

Henry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Brenda Richard Landry, two sons and daughters-in-law, William Henry and Stephanie Dawes Landry of Baton Rouge and Benjamin Joseph and Natalie Weaver Landry of Houston, Tx. He was Pepere to five grandchildren: Daniel Timothy, Luke Joseph, Graham William, Lainey Anne and Hallie Lynn.

He is also survived by his sisters, Esther Landry Melancon of Logansport, LA and Nedra Landry Ramagos of Napoleonville, LA, brother and sister-in-law, Gregory and Cynthia Landry of Baton Rouge. 

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry (Pook) and Mailey Sedotal Landry, sisters Emma Landry Thibodeaux and infant Julie Mailey Landry, brothers-in-law Francis Thibodeaux, Sr, Wayne Melancon, Sr. and Cecil Ramagos, Sr.

Funeral services will be on Friday, December 27 at St. George Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, visitation will be at 9:00am and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Interment will follow at St. George Cemetery.

The family expresses special thanks to the angels at The Barclay House who gave Henry compassionate care and support during his 16 months there, and Alicia, Shannon and Toni with the Hospice of Baton Rouge.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Services of the Capital Area (3772 N. Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806).
