Henry T Maxey

Henry was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 12, 1935 to Henry Truman & Alice Maxey. He was the second of three children and raised with many more as his father operated the Oklahoma Baptist Children's Home. After high school graduation Henry attended Oklahoma Baptist University. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Henry joined the Navy and was tasked as a radar technician on ships and retired as a lieutenant. While stationed in Brunswick, Georgia; Henry met the love of his life Helen and they were married on February 7, 1960. The couple was transferred to the Naval Station at Newport in Rhode Island, where their first of three children, Henry Talmadge (Tal) was born in North Kingston, RI. After being reassigned back to Brunswick they welcomed a beautiful daughter, Cathleen (Cathi) Denise. When Henry felt the calling to enter the ministry the couple moved to Fort Worth, Texas so he could attend seminary, and their third child was born Albert Richard (Rick). For the next 60 years after completion of seminary, Henry dedicated his life to the ministry service. With involvement in the Music and Youth departments, Henry made a lasting impact on countless lives. The couple served at churches in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Mississippi and finally, Oklahoma. Through his experience in the ministry and seeing a need from small developing churches Henry created and maintained a website for Ministers and Music Ministers educating and providing service outlines. The websites was used and viewed more than 10 million times adding to the countless lives touched and enhanced by him. Henry found his love of gardening and tending to plants as a young boy, as his mother said "to wear him out". Later in life if he couldn't be found at the church or with his family Henry was in the yard tending to something and losing many wedding rings and cell phones. With his family he enjoyed camping, fishing, and sailing. When his grandchildren were born he took a special interest in getting them as often as he could and spending summers with them at VBS, bowling and swimming. Henry went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 11, 2024. He is with the love of his life and his parents and leading the heavenly choir. Henry is preceded in death by his wife Helen, his mother and father, older brother and his loving mother-in-law, Louise (Gigi) Evans. He is survived by his children Tal (Jody) Maxey, Yukon, OK; Cathi Clanton, Fort Worth, TX; and Rick Maxey (Gary Blake), Fort Worth, TX and by his precious grandchildren, Cathi's children; Lauren (Micheal) Morrison, Joshua, TX; Jessica (Kris) Jeter, Lubbock, TX; Auston (Jillian) Clanton, Fort Worth, TX and his 5 great-grandchildren, Corban Morrison; Jase Jeter; Gage Jeter; Isabella Clanton and Savannah Clanton. Henry is also survived by his baby sister Barbara Robberson, Missouri City, TX and sister-in-law Rosemary Maxey, Muskogee, OK and many nieces and nephews and friends. The family wishes to express their complete gratitude and sincere thanks to Brenda Wright, our loving nurse Maria and Paul and the amazing staff at Marine Creek Nursing and Rehab and Magnolia Hospice for their loving care and for making his final days comfortable and peaceful. A viewing will be held at Wiley Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 5-7pm and a service at Chapel Hill Memorial in Oklahoma City on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11:30am.
