On December 15, 2025, God called his servant, Henry Mayes, Jr. "Bookie " 57, of Baytown, TX; home.

Services are Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, at St. Mary's Baptist Church 213 Albritton Gully Rd Hankamer, TX. Visitation will begin at 10AM until Funeral at 11AM. Interment will be in Richardson Cemetery Hankamer, TX.

On June 13, 1968, Henry Mayes, Jr; was born to Henry and Alma Mayes, Sr. in Anahuac. He was baptized at an early age. He attended Anahuac ISD and graduated in 1987. He worked at Southern Metal Processing over 25 years in Baytown. On August 4, 2008, he married the love of his life, Veronica Zapata.

One of Henry's biggest joys in life was spending time with his son, Jordon Zapata and his grandchildren.

Henry known to many as "Bookie " was an avid University of Houston fan. He loved watching "Cougars Basketball." He also was the founder of "King of the Asphalt" which was a basketball event that he held for many years during the summer months bringing in hundreds of people.

Henry was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Henry leaves to cherish his memories His loving wife, Veronica Zapata Mayes, children Cassie Willey (Jacob), Giovonni Tapia (Crystal), and Jordon Zapata (Erica), his grandchildren Urijah "Flash", Don Dmitry, Raelyn "Gertrude", Nathaniel "Nate Dog", Maya, Shaila, and Kyndall.
His Parents Henry and Alma Mayes, Sr, siblings: Kathy Whittington (Howard), Brandon Mayes (Erica), and Tracie Mayes (Moe), his brother in laws Greg (Angie) and Adam Zapata, his sister in laws Norma (Omar), Linda, and Micaela. Henry also was a father figure to many of his nephews and nieces who will miss him greatly, along with aunts, cousins, and friends.
