Henry F. Ruban Jr.

Henry F. Ruban, Jr., known to many as "Butch," a longtime resident of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the age of 85.

Butch was born on March 23, 1940, in Irvington, New Jersey, the son of Nellie and Henry Ruban, Sr. He was raised in Springfield, NJ, lived for a time in Clark, and made Berkeley Heights his home in 1976, where he remained deeply rooted in the community.

Butch served in the United States Army National Guard until his honorable discharge. He spent much of his working life as a Tool and Die Maker at General Motors in Clark and Linden, where he was recognized with a 30-year service commendation. Following his time at General Motors, he continued his dedication to service as a bus driver for the Berkeley Heights Board of Education until his retirement.

An avid sports fan, Butch was best known for his unwavering dedication to youth athletics, particularly through the Berkeley Heights PAL. He served on the PAL Board of Trustees, was a PAL Commissioner, and generously volunteered his time as a coach for baseball, softball, and football. He also served as an umpire, becoming a true fixture at local fields. Butch was a legend in the community for his commitment to youth sports and the countless lives he positively impacted.

Above all else, Butch was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, roles he cherished most.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, MaryAnn (Pettinicchio) Ruban; his loving sons, Gary Ruban and his wife Lisa, and Lance Ruban and his wife Andrea; and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Tyler, and Lance Ruban. He is also survived by his stepsister, Barbara Querques, and her husband, Lenny. Butch was predeceased by his parents and his siblings.

A private graveside service will be held at St. Mary's Stony Hill Cemetery. The family will plan a memorial service to celebrate Butch's life at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
