Henry Edward Ruf went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 11, 2024, after suffering a massive heart attack early that morning.
A visitation and celebration of life will be held from 5:00PM - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge.
A Christian funeral will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at the Wilsonville United Baptist-Christian Church with Pastor Peter Paul and Pastor Lana Dake leading the service. Burial will be held following the funeral at the Tyrone Cemetery in Red Willow County.
Ed was born October 2, 1941, in McCook, Nebraska to Henry and Bly (Dillin) Ruf. On August 14, 1960, he married his lovely bride, Ruth (Hosea) Ruf of Wilsonville at Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Lebanon.
Ed was known for his love for the Lord and his entire family, his work ethic, and helping hands of service like every other Midwest farmer. He recently celebrated his 64th wedding anniversary and his 83rd birthday by working on the land, watching a rodeo on TV, and maybe a slice of carrot cake. Ed and Ruth met in grade school but were reintroduced to each other in high school. Their love for each other was something unmatched and guided them through their journey of life. His three children, 10 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. Supporting everyone at athletic games, showing 4-H, while completing daily chores was a normal day of work for Ed. He was a hard worker until he took his last breath. Helping with harvest was something he was proud to do this year, just like every other year. Ed started trucking with Hannebaum Grain where he found the desire to start E&R Trucking, and the family company will continue to live on through his son, Bob Ruf. He was always someone you could count on to give you the shirt of his back or say an extra prayer during a difficult time.
Whether it was simply mowing grass, tending the garden, or helping with harvest Ed was proud to be a farmer in every sense of the word. Nothing made him happier than being out on the land, in God's country. He was a member of the Saddle Club and T-Bone Club and served on the Beaver Valley School Board as well as the 4-H Council. Ed competed in horse shows with Princess mini while, Ruth and their three kids watched from the stands. Being a horseman, Pete was his favorite horse to ride. One of his favorite hobbies was watching and attending rodeos all around the country. Ed and Ruth were members of the Church on the Hill for over 20 years after accepting Jesus Christ into his heart in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ruf and immediate family including two daughters and sons-in-law, Barb and Kevin Hitt of Almena, Kansas, Bev and Bill Moorberg of Keller, Texas, and one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Missy Ruf of Oberlin, Kansas.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and their spouses: Ann and Ace Rodriguez, Michel Hitt, Amanda Hitt, Mitchell and Marci Hitt, Andrea and Bryce Bird, Stephanie Moorberg, Ryan and Jamie Ruf, Sarah and Alex Heeger, Derek and Morrisa Spresser, and Colton and Briana Spresser; 15 great-grandchildren, Alexis and Riley Rodriguez, Joshua and Addilynn Hitt, Malikiah and Sofia Hitt, Rifle Bird, Jax, Bo, and Tagen Ruf, Giada and Guiliana Smith, Hank Heeger, and Nora and Thatcher Spresser; one sister and her husband, Lois and Harold Keller of New Strawn, Kansas; and numerous extended family members.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Henry J. and Bly Ruf, and daughter in law, Sherri (Kennedy) Ruf.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family of Ed Ruf for future designation. Online condolences may be left at lockeonur.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lockenour-Jones Mortuary of Cambridge.
