Henry Smith, age 83 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024.
Henry was born on July 27, 1941 in Louise, Mississippi to the late Martin Smith and Annie Williams Smith. This union produced ten siblings Johnnie, Ruth, Stella, Lela, Dora, Jacob, Issac, Ephraim, Mary, and Henry.
Henry enlisted into the US Army in 1967 and fought in the Vietnam War. He served for seven years and received an honorable discharge and Purple Heart in 1973. He worked for Pepsi and Frito-Lay, then as an independent Route Sales contractor delivering potato chips and snacks for over 53 years until his retirement in 2022.
Henry enjoyed watching Westerns, Clint Eastwood and John Wayne movies, playing chess, driving his charter buses, shooting pool, and gambling. He enjoyed listening to the Rhythm & Blues such as Jimmy Reed, Buddy Guy, and B.B. King. Henry forged a 48-year friendship with Maurice Harney in which they co-owned H&S BBQ for more than five years. He also enjoyed a 21-year companionship with Theta Barlow and embraced her family.
Henry is survived by his brother Issac Sr, son Christopher (Traci), daughters Tamila Coleman and
Sharon Daniel (Rickie); Grandchildren Christopher, Shenika, Rickiel, Kamyie, Kyle, Traci, Aron, Christal, Naomi, and Kayla; 10 greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son Thomas Jay and daughter Gennethia Renee’.
Henry will truly be missed but forever in our memories and hearts!
