Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel on Mar. 2, 2025.
With a voice that carried and a quiet presence that left an impression, Henry "Hank" Solis never met a stranger. Whether talking sports, playing golf, or cheering on his grandchildren, he lit up a room and had unwavering support for his family.
Hank passed away Friday, February 28, 2025, at his home at the age of 77.
Born Henry Louis Solis Jr. on April 9, 1947 in Manhattan, New York, he was the son of Henry Louis Solis Sr. and Mary T. (Calamari) Solis. He graduated from St. Mary of the Assumption High School in New Jersey -where he played baseball and basketball-and earned his bachelor's degree from Rio Grande College, where he met his first wife, Christy. The two married on January 10, 1970, and built a life together filled with family traditions, Friday night football games, and a shared love for their four children.
Hank dedicated 22 years as a supervisor with the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services before retiring in 2003. Even in retirement, he stayed active as a substitute teacher in Fredericktown, Shelby, and Tri-Rivers schools, where he was known for turning any lesson into a discussion on current events.
After Christy's passing in 2010, Hank found love again with Debra Burgholder-Solis, a talented florist who brought warmth and joy into his life. The two were married on October 17, 2013, and enjoyed traveling together to warm destinations.
Hank had a sharp mind for dates and stats, especially when it came to sports. A devoted Ohio State football fan, he could recall game details with pinpoint accuracy and would talk sports with anyone who would listen. He was known affectionately as "Grandpa Ginger," "Grandpa Solis," or "Grandpa Hank."
He enjoyed golf, great food, mowing his lawn, and spending time outdoors. He was a member of the Sons of Herman in Mansfield and attended New Life Church of Christ in Bellville.
Hank is survived by his wife, Deb Burgholder-Solis along with her 3 children and 11 grandchildren; his son Mark Solis of Dublin; his twins and their spouses Stacey & Luke Beal of Sunbury, Chris & Jill Solis of Shelby; his daughter Tracey Solis of Columbus; his grandchildren Trevor (& Bridget) Solis, Rylee Solis, Emily Beal, Hannah Beal, and Colin Solis; great-granddaughter Lainey Rae Solis; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Christy E. Solis, and his parents.
The Solis family will receive friends Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Lexington Avenue Chapel (2553 Lexington Ave in Mansfield) where his funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 AM. Celebrant Dave Roberts will officiate and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be sent to New Life Church of Christ (memo: Missions Fund) 195 W Durbin Ave,
