Loren L. Welch, whose life was marked by faith, service, and a deep love for his family and community, went home to be with The Lord on Friday, July 25, 2025, at the age of 92. His life on this earth, filled with adventure and a quiet strength, ended in the comfort of the faith that guided him throughout his life.
Born on February 6, 1933, in Lexington, Ohio, Loren was the son of Theodore "Ted" and Mary (Williams) Welch. A lifelong resident of Lexington, he attended Lexington High School before proudly serving his country. In 1953, Loren joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1955.
Loren married the love of his life, Carol Ann Phillips, on January 30, 1954, beginning a marriage of 71 ½ years defined by devotion and partnership. Together, they shared a lifetime of adventures, traveling to all 50 states and to Europe, where a highlight was their memorable ride on the legendary Orient Express. They enjoyed 12 cruises and spent 20 winters alternating between Florida and Arizona. Loren also loved going to Cheyenne, Wyoming, to experience the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo as they went just about every other year.
A man committed to serving others, Loren was a member of the Troy Township Fire Department, where he volunteered for 46 years and retired as a captain. He also served as an EMT for 36 years, providing care and comfort to those in need. He took pride in his community, cheering for the Lexington Minutemen and the Ohio State Buckeyes, and found joy in working outdoors-whether mowing or simply enjoying time outside.
Faith was central to Loren's life. He was an active member of Berean Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and participated faithfully in the Son Rise Sunday School. His kindness and compassion made a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Loren is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Ann Welch; children Keith (Kathy) Welch and Brian (Melanie) Welch; grandchildren Holly (Tim) Holmes, Aaron (Erin) Welch, Kathryn (Matthew) Chevalier and Daniel (Kelsi) Welch; great-grandchildren Abigail, Natalie, Jillian, Josephine and Anthony with one on the way; great-great-grandchildren Annie and Kaden. Loren also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Mary Welch, and siblings Richard (Mabel) Welch and Frank Milton (Ruth Ann) Welch.
Loren lived not for recognition but for the joy of loving his family, serving his community, and walking faithfully with God. His life leaves behind a legacy of generosity, faith, and perseverance.
Friends may call Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 11am - 1 pm at Berean Baptist Church where his funeral service will begin promptly at 1 pm. Burial will follow the service in Lexington Cemetery.
