Anne, a woman born with a heart made for caring, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the family she so deeply loved on August 29, 2025. Known for her tireless devotion to others, Anne's life was a beautiful reflection of faith, family and friendship.
Anne was born on October 24, 1943 in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, to Francis E. Gouker and Elvira J. DiAngelous. At the age of five, her family moved to Lexington, Ohio. Her mother passed away very young and Anne grew up helping care for her younger siblings - a role she embraced wholeheartedly and would carry with her throughout her life.
A proud Homecoming Queen of the 1961 graduating class at Lexington High School, Anne was admired for her warmth and kindness she extended to all. As a young woman, she worked at First National Bank in central filing. She met her lifelong partner at a Christmas party at the Atmosphere Restaurant in Lexington, where she worked for many years. Anne married Lowell L. Hershner on September 28, 1963. It was love at first sight and a bond that only deepened with time. They shared 61 beautiful years together. Together, they raised three cherished children.
Her Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout Anne's life. She was a charter member of Resurrection Parish in Lexington and a faithful attendee of St. Mary's of the Snows in Mansfield. She served her community through church and school volunteer work. Anne believed in showing up for others and making them feel special, doing so quietly, consistently and with great love.
Anne had a remarkable way of maintaining friendships across the years and miles. She kept in close touch with her Lexington classmates, organizing monthly lunches and reunions. She filled her home with warmth - always ready with a pitcher of her famous sweet tea and a plate of cheese cubes for any visitors. No one ever left her home hungry. She cut countless watermelons for Tony and Kevin's baseball team pool parties, and baked DOZENS of chocolate chip cookies to send in care packages to Tiffany in college. She always made sure you knew you were cared for. She was generous and selfless in all ways.
Anne cherished her role as a grandmother, finding some of her happiest moments in the company of her grandchildren. She counted each of them as her brightest blessings and gave them the gift of knowing her endless love for them.
Above all, Anne was devoted to her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Lowell L. Hershner, her children Lowell Anthony ("Tony") Hershner, Donald "Kevin" (Melissa) Hershner, and Tiffany Anne (Jason) Gavula; her treasured grandchildren Hannah (Gage) Swartzentruber, Dominic Gavula and Haylee Hershner, and her sweet great-grandson Callan Swartzentruber.
She is also survived by her siblings: Mary A. (JP) McCusker, Barbara J. (Bill) Fields, Connie J. Worley, F. Raymond Gouker, Thomas G. (Theresa) Gouker, and P. Micheal Gouker, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Debra K. Hershner, sister-in-law Anne Gouker, brother-in-law Tom Yunker, and nephew Jimmy McCusker.
Anne's circle of family and friends stretches far and wide. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched and every loving memory shared by those who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Calling hours will be Friday, September 12, 2025 from 4-7 pm at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Catholic Mass will be held at Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Avenue, Lexington, Ohio 44904, on Saturday September 13 at 11 am.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Resurrection Parish or St. Mary's of the Snows Parish.
The family extends their gratitude to Hospice of Western Reserve for their caring assistance in her transition.
