SELKIRK - At age 82, Henry C. Weisheit Jr., passed away peacefully at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, on February 26, 2026, after a long five-year battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Henry was a lifelong resident of Selkirk and was the eldest son of Henry Sr., a local veterinarian and Edna Patterson Weisheit. His parents predeceased him.
Known to his friends and family as "Hank," he was a graduate of Albany Academy, SUNY Cobleskill and Cornell University. He subsequently worked for the IRS for 34 years as a compliance officer. He received many commendations from the customers that he served during that time.
Hank spent his leisure time as a devoted pet parent to cats Mitzi, Trixie and Shadow. He was the proud uncle to David Olenick, Lianne (Jason) Lohraseb and Matthew Weisheit.
He faithfully attended school concerts and sporting events. He often would accompany them to River Rats and Valley Cats games. Hank was a faithful member of the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, where he served on the Consistory and many committees. Hank is survived by his sister, Dianne (Lou) Olenick of New York City; his brother, Robert (Deborah) Weisheit of Selkirk; and his sister, Kathy (Jerre) Griffin of San Antonio. He is also survived by step-nephews, Ian and Max Griffin of Texas.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem, at 11 a.m., followed by interment at the Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will precede the funeral from 10 to 11 a.m., at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the memory of Henry C. Weisheit Jr., to the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem or the Hudson-Mohawk Humane Society.
