It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Herbert R. Guy, who peacefully transitioned to glory on July 19, 2024. He was born on September 17, 1949 to the late Rev. Eulis Guy and the late Daisy Lee Garrett Guy. He lived his life guided by the inspiring words of Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV): "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." This verse truly reflects Mr. Guy's unwavering faith and his belief in the extraordinary blessings that can be bestowed upon those who seek the Lord's guidance.
Beyond being the esteemed founder and cornerstone of Guy Roofing, Mr. Guy's legacy extends far beyond his professional achievements. He was a man of remarkable generosity, always ready to extend a helping hand to those around him. His character was defined by his selflessness, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His love for Guy Roofing and its employees permeated every aspect of his life, demonstrating an unparalleled dedication to the company. He instilled in others a strong foundation of integrity, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
Mr. Guy was known for his tireless work ethic and his ability to accomplish anything he set his mind to. He cherished spending time with his family and embarking on travel adventures together. His selflessness and devotion to honoring God were evident in his everyday actions, making him a cherished pastor's friend. He served as a shining example of a man of deep faith, and his legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire us all.
Mr. Guy is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Martha Ann Potts Guy, his son Jeff Guy (Dawn), and his daughter Julie G. Taylor; his stepsons Frankie Collier and Michael Collier. He is also survived by his eight cherished grandchildren: Raven Guy, Megan McCall (Breman), Dru Guy, Daphne Guy, Austin Taylor, Hayden Taylor, Delaney Guy, and Daelyn Guy. Additionally, he leaves behind a great-grandson, Henri Watkins. Mr. Guy's sisters, Eula Rode, Geraldine Zawacki (Leonard), and Barbara Grenier, as well as his brother Edward Guy, and a large extended family of nieces and nephews, also mourn his loss. He was preceded in death by his siblings David Guy, Frank Guy, and Shirley G. Green, and his stepson Jeremy Collier.
The family will be receiving friends on Monday, July 22, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, located at 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, at 11:00 am, also at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, followed by entombment at Floyd's Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Trinity Baptist Church Missions Fund, 390 Wingo Heights Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29303, or the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29303, in memory of Mr. Herbert R. Guy.
