Herbert (Herb) L. Hand Sr. of Canton, Georgia passed at his home and into the arms of Jesus on the weekend of October 11, 2025. Born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on March 8, 1947, he was a gregarious lover of fun, dogs, and a good game of cribbage or a round of golf. He was beloved by many, including his siblings, his nieces and nephews with whom he maintained regular contact. He was a strong advocate of serving his local community.
Over the years he worked in law enforcement (as a Reserve Deputy in Aroostook County, ME and Pickens County, GA) and as a volunteer fireman. He donated many hours at his local thrift store and worked with the incarcerated and at a youth home. For most of his work career, he was a produce inspector, first with the A&P Tea Company and then with the US Department of Agriculture in the Ports of Philadelphia and Miami/ Fort Lauderdale.
He is survived by his children: John (Marcy) Hand of Auburn, NY with granddaughters- Suzanne (Jonathan) Lane, great-grandson Levi Lane, Jadan Hand, and grandson Nathanael Hand; Herbert (Deb) L. Hand Jr of Tallahassee, FL with grandsons-Herbert (Trey) L. Hand III, Cade Hand, and granddaughter Bailey Hand; Rebecca (Pablo) Moran of Orlando FL, granddaughters Rayne Moran and Amaya Moran; Dawn (Steven) Crawford of Fredericton, NB. Canada, granddaughter Mikayla Hand and grandson Kevin Crawford; and Jonathan Laskiewicz of Milford DE. Important in his life was his long-term relationship with Suzanne Gleason of Canton GA, her daughter Melinda (Jamie) Poyer, her grandsons-Ryan, Kevin, Austin, Steven, and Hudson, granddaughter Erin, and her grandsons-Cameron and Matthew Wulfsohn (and their late mother- Jennifer Gleason).
