Herbert Leo Kamine passed away on June 18th, 2023 at the age of 92. He was born to Herman and Martha (Kienitz) Kamine on October 26, 1930.
He grew up off of Harbor Road south of Peshtigo, as the 9th child out of 11. In his young years he would walk behind his father as he cut hay catching frogs to sell to the local restaurant. When all of his older brothers were drafted into the military, he needed to step up to help his father on the homestead by cutting, selling and delivering wood while along with his younger siblings continuing to farm the land and care for the cattle. Living along the Peshtigo River he had to swim across on a regular basis to retrieve an escaped cow or two.
At the age of 17, he found purpose through his faith and it became the cornerstone of his life. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, Herb was known for his genuine love and concern for others. He dedicated countless hours to sharing the good news of the kingdom and providing spiritual guidance to those in need, whether it was through the door-to-door ministry, studying the Bible with others or quizzing whoever he could on where to find a scripture in the Bible. He lived a life guided by faith, love, and unwavering devotion to our Creator Jehovah.
Beyond his religious activities, Herb worked for 45 years as an overhead crane operator at Giddings & Lewis Factory. After his retirement in 1995, he and his wife Carol spent 20 yrs wintering in Ocala, FL were he continued his ministry in warmer weather. Together they enjoyed music, dancing and travel. Herb cherished time spent with his family and he and Carol were always willing to open their home, providing a family for 6 foreign UW Students, several of which along with their families continue to be a part of our family. He also made time to hit a few balls on the golf course. He never could help himself to crack a joke or try to make people laugh.
Herb was a loving father to Debby (Scott) Gillespie of Milwaukee; Laurie (Brian) Visintin of Marinette; grandfather to Chad (Ashely) Visintin; Ethan (Olivia) Visintin and great grandfather to his precious granddaughters Elliott and Iris Visintin. He is further survived by a sister Lydia Hughes of Marinette and a brother Norman (Nancy) Kamine of Delafield.
Preceding him in death was his wife of 62 yrs, Carol, who he called "the love of my life". His parents, 2 sisters - Gertrude (John) Kamine & Minnie (Albert) Klimek; 6 Kamine brothers and their wives – Alvin (Rose), Ervin (Dorothy), Harvey (Norma), Reinhart (Leova), Arthur (Shirley), Lawrence (Doris) and a brother in law Glenwin Hughes.
A visitation will begin at 1:00 PM at the Marinette Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Sunday, June 25th 2023. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm with Michael Roman officiating.
Herb's family would like to thank the staff at The Cottages Assisted Living and Unity Hospice for the wonderful care provided.
