Herbert "Wayne" Quiggins, 96, passed by his wife's side, on Friday, November 22, 2024. He was born in Hardin County, Kentucky, on November 17, 1928, to his late parents, Osley and William Carlus Quiggins.
Wayne was a proud veteran of The United States Navy, a Deacon of Parkwood Baptist Church, now known as Cornerstone Baptist Church; he was a Kosair Shriner and a mason at Meeting Creek Masonic Lodge 641. He retired from DuPont Chemical Company after 33 years and soon after that, he worked for the Kentucky State Fair driving a tractor for 30 years, all while practicing as a real estate broker. Anyone who knew him knew he could never meet a stranger. He would sponsor several athletic teams for his colleagues at DuPont, he was an avid bowler and loved to shoot pool. He had many friends he would work out with at the Southwest YMCA. He was proud of his service to his country and the 2024 president he helped select. Wayne would always dress to impress, especially when he attended the Kentucky Derby. Above all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Amber Michelle Johnson; and sister, Pauline Miller.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 73 years, Edwinna (Ford) Quiggins; children, Jacqueline Sue DeMarsh (Joseph) and Jennifer Lynn Berry (Jimmy); grandchildren, Brooke Kincheloe (Jon), Brandon Kenneth Wayne Johnson, Jordan Goff (Eric), and Lucas Wayne Nalley; great-grandchildren, Kameron & Benjamin Johnson, Charlie & Hunter Kincheloe, Truitt "T.W." Wayne & Winnie Goff; sister, Shirley O'Bryan (Dee); his honorary granddaughter, Amanda "Mandy" Slayton (Scotty); and a host of other family members and friends.
His visitation will be at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 1:00-8:00 PM and Wednesday, November 27, 2024, from 11:00-1:00 PM. His funeral service will follow the visitation on Wednesday at 1:00 PM with a burial at Beth Haven Cemetery.
The family asks, that expressions of sympathy be made to Hosparus of Louisville.
