Herbert Louis Woolsey, age 96, of Vandalia, IL passed away Thursday, October 16, 2025 at SBL Fayette County Hospital Long Term Care in Vandalia, IL.

He was born January 4, 1929 in Bear Grove, IL, the son of Benjamin Frederick and Anna Helena (Braun) Woolsey. He married Dixie Miller on May 2, 1953 in Vandalia IL. She passed away on

September 17, 1997. He later married Mary (Cline) Woolsey on April 25, 2004. He served his country in the United States Army. He retired as a Colonel after serving 34 years in the reserves.

He was a member of Unity Baptist Church for many years and taught the adult Sunday school class. With his brother, Gerald Woolsey, as a partner, Woolsey Bros Farm Supply Inc began in 1954. After his brother passed in 2002, the business continued with many family members and employees just short of 70 years.

He is survived by his wife Mary (Cline) Woolsey and her children Dale, Paula and Marilyn Vise all near Columbia IL and Belleville IL, brother-in-law Charles Cline and Judy of Mulberry Grove, IL.

Sons, Rick Woolsey, Ryan Woolsey, Rita (Tim) Metzger, and Raymond (Coni) Woolsey, Kathy Woolsey daughter-in-law all of Vandalia and Cindy Woolsey daughter-in-law of Patoka IL.

13 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dixie Woolsey; sons, Randall and Ronald Woolsey; brothers, Benjamin, Raymond, Harold, Gerald Woolsey; sisters: Pauline Mitchel and Arlene Varady.

Services will be held at 11:00 am Monday, October 20, 2025 at Unity Baptist Church in Vandalia IL. with Paster Joe Lawson officiating. Burial will follow at McInturff Cemetery in rural Vandalia, IL. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, prior to the service on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to McInturff Cemetery and/or Unity Baptist Church. Miller Funeral Home, Vandalia, IL is in charge of arrangements. Online memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.millerfh.net.
