Mr. Herman Tony Carroll, of Pinnacle, was born on July 20, 1944, in Horry County, SC, to Arthur McKinley and Edith Johnson Carroll. He passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
After completing his education, he served as a sergeant in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for most of his enlistment. He spent most of his career in the auto industry until his retirement.
His love for South Carolina was evident in the time he spent with family across the state and in his fondness for restful visits to the coast.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening, traveling, reading, and classic western films. In later years, he found solace in sketching portraits of loved ones and relaxing in his favorite chair.
Above all, Mr. Carroll cherished family cookouts and reunions, finding his greatest joy in gathering with loved ones to share good food, laughter, and memories.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Russell Henry; his brother, William Henry Carroll; and his nephew, Joseph Anderson.
Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife, Linda Carroll; two daughters, Tobi York (Rusty) and Heather Carroll; four grandchildren, Erica Henry, McKinley York, Hunter York, and Walker York; a great-grandson, Aidden Burgos; a brother, Tom Carroll (Peggy); three sisters-in-law, Nancy Carroll, Janice Anderson, and Rose Marie Wade (Troy); along with several nieces and nephews.
“Lord, I reckon I’m not much just by myself,
I fail to do a lot of things I ought to do.
But Lord, when trails are steep and passes high,
Help me ride it straight the whole way through.
And when in the falling dusk I get that final call,
I do not care how many flowers they send,
Above all else, the happiest trail would be,
For You to say to me, “Let’s ride, My Friend.””
