Herman Lewis O'Neal

Herman Lewis O'Neal, 73, of Syracuse, NY, peacefully departed this life on Friday, June 6, 2025, at Crouse Memorial Hospital. He was lovingly surrounded by his daughter Lawanda and granddaughter Breanna at the time of his passing.
Born on September 24, 1952, in Opelika, Alabama, Herman was the eldest child of the late Lizzy O'Neal and John Henry Benson. He spent more than 40 years as a devoted resident of Syracuse, NY, where he built a life centered on family, faith, and hard work.
Before relocating to Syracuse with his beloved late wife, Helen O'Neal, and their children, Herman retired from Coca-Cola in Opelika. He later continued his dedicated work ethic at Killian Manufacturing, where he also retired after many years of service.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Lizzy O'Neal and John Henry Benson (Opelika, AL); his wife, Helen O'Neal (Syracuse, NY); his daughter, Rachelle Chisolm; and his sister, Linda Sue (Opelika, AL).
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Lawanda Brown and Brandy O'Neal; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of Syracuse, NY; his sister, Angela O'Neal, and brother, Richard Glen O'Neal, both of Opelika, AL; as well as a host of loving family members and friends.
Herman was a humble, family-oriented man who took pride in providing for his loved ones. He especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren and shared a special bond with his youngest grandson, Kishawn, whom he was lovingly raising until his passing.
He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering work ethic, and deep love for his family and friends. Herman's presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
