Herminia Hernandez Obituary

Visit the Compean Funeral Home - Houston website to view the full obituary.

Herminia “Mimi” “Minnie” Zepeda Hernandez, 86, retired Licensed Vocational Nurse was born on November 30, 1938, in Tyler, Texas, and entered eternal rest on August 13, 2025, in Houston, Texas. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend whose warmth, humor, and kindness left a lasting impression on all who knew her. A true jokester at heart, Herminia loved to make others laugh—whether through a clever quip, a playful tease, or a well-timed story, she delighted in sharing joy and laughter with her family and friends.

Herminia found beauty in life’s simple joys. She adored elephants, finding them as majestic as they were comforting, and shared an unbreakable bond with her beloved dog, Dena, who passed away last July. Their closeness was so well known that family often joked she might have loved Dena even more than her children. A loyal Houston Astros fan, she especially cheered for her favorite player, José Altuve.

Her hospitality was legendary—no one ever left her home hungry, and cold coffee or food was never an option. What mattered most to her was that every guest felt welcomed and cared for. She loved crabbing along the Gulf and always joined her husband and family at the 61st fishing pier in Galveston. While she wasn’t fond of fishing herself, she treasured the time spent together—soaking in the laughter, swapping stories, and relishing the comfort of family. She also had a deep appreciation for country music, with a special love for the timeless voice of George Jones.

Herminia was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Rita Zepeda, and her beloved husband, Augustine Hernandez II. She is survived by her children: Augustine Hernandez III, Ronald Hernandez, Marina Hernandez-Quiroz and husband Flavio Quiroz Sr., and Lee Ramon Hernandez; her 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends.

Those blessed to have shared in her life will forever treasure the laughter, love, stories, and unforgettable memories she so generously gave.
