Hermiz Istephan Zara

Hermiz Istephan Zara, cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away on May 3, 2024. He was born on May 5th, 1939, in Baghdad, Iraq, to the late Stephan and Habouba Zara.
On May 30th, 1986, he married the love of his life, Loretta "Lori" Bettin, in Roseville, Michigan. Together, they had four children: Angela (Jeff) Wills, Jason Hermiz, Steven Hermiz, and Stefanie (Ryan) Wahula. Proud grandfather to Thomas.
He was the beloved brother of John (Helga) Daude, Ghalia (the late Wadi) Wardiya, Muntaha (Salem) Najjar, Tarik (Majdoline) Zara, Ken (Joyce) Zara, Amel (Lee) Najor, and Silvana (the late Munther) Goria. He held a special place in the hearts of his many nieces and nephews.
Hermiz had a passion for cooking and found joy in preparing meals for his family, friends, and neighbors. His green thumb was evident in his love for gardening. He was known as "everyone's dad," spreading warmth and kindness wherever he went. One of his greatest joys was dancing with his grandson, Thomas. He took immense pride in his children's accomplishments and was their biggest supporter.
When he was younger Hermiz served as a dedicated police officer, exemplifying his commitment to serving others. Later, he found success as a proud business owner. His deep faith was an integral part of his life, and he held a special devotion to the Blessed Mother.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 8th, 9:30 am Instate and Mass starting at 10:00 am at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica in Royal Oak. Interment will follow the Mass at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. Memorial Luncheon to follow interment.
He will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
