Four Oaks, NC: Mr. Hewitt “Levi” Lawrence, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00PM-Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Oliver’s Grove Baptist Church, Four Oaks, NC. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, Four Oaks, NC. Rev. Rodney Raby, Rev. John Robert Harris, Rev. Dennis Pollock, and Rev. David Brantley will officiate.

Mr. Lawrence was born on August 22, 1940 in Bogue Chitto Mississippi, to the late Thomas Houston and Trevia Reeves Lawrence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Joyce Lawrence; two infant sons, and his siblings, Lloyd Lawrence, Catherine Hodges, Edwin Lawrence, and Clayton Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence was referred to as a retired mechanic, and while true, there was so much more. He rebuilt his first engine at just 13 years old. During the 1960’s, he worked in the oil fields of Mississippi and Louisiana, calling it the most fascinating job he ever held. His Military service brought him to North Carolina, where he continued to ply his trade as a mechanic on everything from automobiles, airplanes, diesel mechanics, heavy equipment operator/repair, to transfer truck driver/repair. If he could get his hands on something, it could be repaired. The final 8 years of his professional career was as a Diesel Maintenance Instructor for JCC’s Truck Driver Training School.

He was a member of and faithfully attended Tee’s Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church until illness limited his mobility.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Hilda Stanley Lawrence; children, Debra Lynn Frye (Ray), Amy Lawrence Harris (John), and Jeffrey Lawrence (Heather); grandchildren, April Evans (Travis), Heather Webster, (Alexander), Carter Harris (Zoe), Dylan Harris (Grace), Kennedy Harris, Kelsey Lawrence (Niki), and Jake Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Faith Evans, Norah Harris, Amanda Evans, Nicholas Evans, Travis Wayne Evans, and Ashton Koehn; honorary grandchildren, Jordan, Zach, Hailey, Parker, and Blake; brother, Gilbert Lawrence; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends following the funeral service, prior to going to the cemetery, and other times at the home.

The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers.
