Higinio Y. Gonzales

Higinio Y. Gonzales, 86, a beloved and longtime resident of Lawrence, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home, on Monday, November 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Huancayo, Peru, Higinio immigrated to Massachusetts in 1961 and first settled in Boston. Following his marriage to his sweetheart, Angela (Martinez) Gonzales, they settled in Lawrence. Together, they shared forty-eight wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, family, and community, where they raised their children and became deeply involved in the fabric of the city.

Higinio earned his bachelor's degree from Boston Architectural College and enjoyed a fulfilling career with the Lawrence City Planning Board. His dedication to urban development and thoughtful planning left a lasting impact on the city he called home.

A devoted community member, Higinio was a founding member of APU Asociación Peruanos Unidos de Massachusetts and an active participant in the Latin Lyons Club of Lawrence. Known for his generosity and skill in construction, he was always ready to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbors, and family alike. Above all, Higinio was a family man.

In addition to his wife Angela, Higinio will be deeply missed by his children, Luis Gonzales of Lawrence, Cristina Chuica and her husband Roberto of Lawrence; his cherished granddaughters, Kimberly and Kaylee; his brother, Jesus Gonzales; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Roman Y. Gonzales.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, November 6, 2025, between 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Peasant Valley Street, Methuen. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 300 Haverhill Street, Lawrence.
