Hilda Hierboeck Forbush, 89, died on Saturday, November 15, 2025. She leaves behind her two sons, Greg (Laurie) and Gary (Loriann), and her three grandchildren; Hilary, Amy and Eric. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kent, and her parents, Hermann and Mathilde.
Born and raised in Munich, Germany, she was the only child of Hermann Felix and Mathilde Grill Hierboeck. As a child, she survived the bombing of Munich during World War II. At 16, she immigrated with her parents to the United States, settling in Utah. Hilda and her parents became naturalized citizens in November 1958. Hilda was a hard worker and helped support her family by working as a runner at a bank.
In Utah, she met her husband Kent at a church meeting in a German-speaking ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were married on May 25, 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. Hilda continued working at the bank after her marriage and birth of her children, eventually working her way up to management level. She ended her 44-year-long career as an Operations Officer at KeyBank in 1994. She accomplished all this without any college education.
Hilda and Kent enjoyed raising their family in South Salt Lake. After retirement, they made the move to West Jordan, where they made many valued friendships over the past 24 years.
Hilda's sons remember her biting sense of humor and the way she would support them going on zany adventures in their youth. She was very organized and precise and took pride in keeping a neat home. She was an incredible cook, often making delicious German food for her family. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, creating beautiful handmade afghans and sweaters. She also loved riding her bike, the roses in her garden, attending water aerobics classes, going out with her friends, and spoiling her grandkids any way she could.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary. A family graveside service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Estates the following day.
The Forbush family expresses gratitude for the excellent care provided by True North Home Health and Hospice and the night time angels of Cornerstone Caregiving during Hilda's last weeks of life.
