Hilda Louise Moore Wright, 90, of
Falmouth, KY, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023, at her home. Born on June 13, 1932, to the late James Emery and Christena (Meyer) Moore, Hilda graduated as the 1950 salutatorian of Butler High School, after which she attended the University of Kentucky, Georgetown College, Villa Madonna College and Northern Kentucky University, earning her BA, MA, and Rank I in teaching. She taught elementary students at Butler, Mt. Auburn, and Northern Elementary and retired after 35 years of service, being named a Kentucky Colonel for her dedication to teaching. When she was 8 years old, Hilda joined the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, where she was active in many activities and served in many offices, receiving special recognition in 2019 for her lifetime of service and dedication. Throughout her life, Hilda continued to serve the community through leadership roles in the Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association, with her local group, Mt. Auburn, and at regional and state levels. Special honors include: 1982-1983 Pendleton County Conservation Teacher of the Year, 1989-1990 Outstanding Conservation Teacher, 1995 Friend of the Homemakers, 1998 Cookbook Sale Award, 1997-1998 Pendleton County Homemakers President-Elect, 1998-2000 Pendleton County Homemakers President, 2003-2005 Pendleton County Homemakers Vice President, 2012 Pendleton County Homemakers "Go-Getter" Award, and 32 years of perfect attendance with the Pendleton County Homemakers. Hilda worked diligently to help raise funds for the new Pendleton County Extension Office, helped to establish the Margaret Morford Scholarship Fund, and contributed to many causes near and dear to her heart: the KY United Methodist Children's Home, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, the Disabled American Veterans, and The Gideons International. Hilda received many awards for all of the outstanding work she has done over the years. She loved to quilt, knit, crochet, read the Bible, watch University of Kentucky basketball, raise flowers, travel with friends to different states and refinish furniture. During her illness, she even taught two of her caregivers to quilt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Darla Kay Wright and her brother Roy Allen (Betty) Moore.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her son Darryl Keith Wright; two grandsons: Matt (Juana) Springate of
Ipswich, MA and Michael Springate of
Lexington, KY; two great grandsons: Daniel and Lucas Springate, also of MA; her "golden caregivers": Tammy Teegarden, April Teegarden, Jennifer Kilgore, Elaine Cunningham, Julie Lambert, Missy Osborne, and Jennifer Dusing; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. The visitation will be from 11-2pm on Sunday preceding the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the Lenoxburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Pine Grove United Methodist Church, the Kentucky United Methodist Children's Home, or the
charity of one's choice.
The family will always remember all of the love and kindness shown to Hilda from her caregivers, St. Elizabeth Physicians, St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Hospice of Hope, River Valley Nursing Home & Rehab, The Seasons of Alexandria Nursing & Rehab, and Highland Springs Nursing & Rehab.
